History:
Garrett Dorn is a young man that has had a series of unfortunate events transpire in his life. Garrett was born and raised on the borderlands between Astahar and the Steppes to a farmer family that had mediocre success. The Earthblood tides that meandered through the area left some fertile areas on the Dorn family land. However, over time the fertility of the soil did not yield as much as the previous generation, leaving each year slightly less or the same in production. Garrett’s father, Jaquapo, a hearty soul, continued as his farther did to tend to the farm lands and bring Garrett up in the ways of land use. Gabriella, his mother cared for him and his younger sister Mattalay, teaching them to read and write at early ages when they were unable to work the fields.
Tragedy first struck young Garrett at the age of 12. Garrett and Jaquapo had traveled south to trade crops, when a raid of mysterious marauders devastated his village and his homestead, killing both Gabriella and Mattalay. Devastated by the loss of his wife and daughter, Jaquapo slipped into a spiraling depression, which in turn lead to a less successful yield of crops in the following years. With his father’s sorrow affecting their livelihood, Garrett saw the need to step up his role to help his father through this troublesome time. His love of his father was strong and the loving memory of his mother and sister drove him to try to pick up the slack that was left because of Jaquapo’s depression. After 3 long, hard years, Jaquapo, who had turned to the bottle to alleviate his pain, saw that the future of the Dorn’s family farm would be bleak. Wanting more for his son, Jaquapo pushed Garrett toward the Astahar border watch so that he would have a future, but have the chance to avenge his mother and sister’s death.
Garrett, at the Age of 15 left home to join the ranks of the Astahar border watch, starting off as a page then graduating to a full patrolman. Now at age 17, Garrett Dorn, capable with a sword and shield, patrols the boarder to protect his homeland from the evils that brought folly upon his family.
Personality:
Garrett had to grow up rather quickly so his demeanor is one like his homeland, harsh. He is a capable farmer and military student. His humor is often odd and dark. However, he is fiercely loyal to his father and between rounds of guard duties he has traveled back to the homestead to try to help financial out with his father to try to make ends meet with some of the coin Garrett has earned with the Border Watch to help fend off the Vulture Land Barons of Thulansun. He is a goal driven individual and a survivor. He holds a deep resentment toward who he believes killed his mother and sister, the Elves. It has always been speculated that the raid was Elves taking revenge on the people of Astahar, just because they could, but it was never proven only whispered over and over. Over time those whispers grew into deep resentment toward the only thing that Garrett could imagine.
Garrett knows right from wrong, and he knows the law and abides with the moral goodness more than the physical law should there be a disagreement with the two. This tendency of kindness was taught by his mother.
